WVAFP Installs New President
Charleston, WV – March 24, 2023 – Benjamin A. Silverberg, MD, MSc, FAAFP, FCUCM, Associate Professor within the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine and Medical Director of the WVU Physician Assistant Studies program, was installed by American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Board Member Sarah Nosal, MD from Bronx, NY as the President of the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. The installation occurred during the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians (WVAFP) 71st Annual Scientific Assembly held on March 24, 2023 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston, WV.
As WVAFP President, Dr. Silverberg will advocate on behalf of all WV family physicians and their patients to inspire positive changes in the health care system. “As family physicians, we all work in different geographic parts of our great state, as well as in different practice settings – hospitalists, women’s health specialists, urgentologists, et cetera – but we all come together for the same purpose: Treating people where they are, physically and emotionally. Through the WVAFP, we can teach and support one another, working towards better, safer, more comprehensive care for all.”
A board-certified family physician, Dr. Silverberg completed medical school at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 2009, family medicine residency at the University of Virginia in 2012, and fellowship training in community medicine at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center in 2016. Dr. Silverberg previously studied chemistry and, separately dramatic arts at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an undergraduate, and also earned Master’s Degrees in Biochemistry and Global Health from Georgetown University and Duke University, respectively.
Founded in 1948, the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians represents more than 1,000 physicians and medical students statewide. It is the largest medical specialty society devoted solely to primary care. The West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians is a chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
