
The West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians is pleased to announce that Andy Tanner, DO, has been named the 2019 Family Doctor of the Year. The award is the chapter’s highest honor and recognizes a lifetime of service as a dedicated family physician as well as the continued respect of his patients and fellow physicians. This is the 45thyear that the award has been given. Dr Tanner is an attending physician and the Program Director of the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Family Medicine Residency Program. He is a native of Vienna, West Virginia. He graduated from Marshall University in 1990 with a BS in Cytotechnology and worked in a medical lab in Huntington for 5 years before entering medical school. He graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1999 and completed the Osteopathic Internship and Family Medicine Residency Program at Charleston Area Medical Center. After graduation in 2002, Dr. Tanner joined the faculty as an assistant professor. In 2005, he became Program Director for the Osteopathic Family Medicine Program. Dr. Tanner is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, and the American Society of Addictions Medicine. Additionally, he serves as a member of the West Virginia Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr Tanner lives in Charleston, West Virginia, with his husband Dewayne Duncan.
